The German state of Bavaria is preparing to add another jewel to its tourism crown with the upcoming launch of the world’s first Harry Potter-themed hotel at LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort. The magical accommodation, scheduled to welcome its first guests in 2026, represents a collaboration between Merlin Entertainments and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, as confirmed by the official Harry Potter website.
The introduction of the themed hotel signals an evolution for Bavarian tourism. Traditionally celebrated for its historical sites, Alpine scenery, and cultural heritage, the region is now embracing fantasy-based tourism as a complementary attraction. The resort’s location also offers convenient access from major urban centers, with Munich and Stuttgart each 90 minutes away by car or train.
Inside The Harry Potter Hotel And The Work Behind Its Wizarding World
Development plans for the hotel reveal meticulous attention to recreating the atmosphere of the Harry Potter universe through distinctively LEGO interpretations. Each guest room will feature unique design elements representing the four Hogwarts houses — Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin — providing an immersive overnight experience.
Travel and Tour World explains that common areas throughout the property will recreate iconic locations from the series, transformed through the playful aesthetic of LEGO design. The project stands as Merlin Entertainment’s “largest-ever single investment into an existing LEGOLAND site,” according to CEO Fiona Eastwood, highlighting the company’s confidence in the concept.
Regional Economic Impact Beyond Park Boundaries
The German National Tourist Board has noted growing interest in experiential tourism, where visitors seek immersive, hands-on experiences rather than just sightseeing. Travel and Tour World reports that “according to regional tourism data, themed attractions tend to generate substantial economic activity, benefiting local businesses, hotels, restaurants, and retailers.” The project is part of “the Bavarian Government’s efforts to attract international visitors,” with the hotel playing “an important role in boosting the region’s global profile.”
