Let’s face it, everywhere we look there’s a new travel show on our streaming devices such as Netflix, Prime, and Hulu. For our readers looking for some binge-worthy shows on a rainy day to stay inspired, here’s a list of top five travel docu-series you need to watch.
1. Dark Tourism
In recent years there’s been a rise in interest to what is called Dark Tourism. The concept of “Dark Tourism” is about people who have a desire to travel to war- ridden, most miserable, down- trodden destinations across the globe. Enter David Farrier, a journalist from New Zealand who takes an interest in interviewing these “travelers” to get an understanding of the thrill they’re in seek of.
2. Zac Efron “Down To Earth”
Former Disney kid and heartthrob type actor Zac Efron travels the world learning about sustainable living and green energy but the show also combines travel experiences with culture.
3. Anthony Bourdain “Parts Unknown”
RIP to a Legend. Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown eventually became one of CNN’s greatest series on TV. He was one of New York City’s top celebrity chefs in the late 90’s and his entertainment career took off. I would consider him the Jay-Z of TV travel shows, as he travels to many smaller lesser known cities to experience local cuisine.
4. Somebody Feed Phil
The writer and executive producer of the hit TV series “Everybody Loves Raymond” travels to different parts of the world to try his favorite foods. One of the more humorous TV Travel experiences, we watch Phil and his quirky innocent like behavior interact with people and foods in foreign lands.
5. Stanley Tucci “Searching For Italy”
I couldn’t give this show a shot after the passing of Bourdain. I just thought to myself, come on CNN, can the casket go in the grave first? But then on a late night after some creative activities, I let the show play on youtube, and I actually enjoyed it. You’ll be familiar with the host, writer / director Stanley Tucci who you might’ve seen in “The Hunger Games” or “The Devil Wears Prada”. He explores the country of Italy to find out more about his heritage as well as the cuisine that has the world enamored.
