The world’s first Muslim-friendly cruise, designed specifically for religious travelers, is scheduled to launch from Malaysia this November. The M/V Piano Land, a joint venture between Malaysian travel company Hwajing Travel & Tours and Chinese cruise line Astro Ocean Cruise, represents a milestone in inclusive tourism. Euronews reports that the venture addresses the unique needs of Muslim travelers who have historically faced limitations on traditional cruise experiences.

With facilities including 100 percent halal food options, alcohol-free beverages, dedicated prayer rooms, and onboard prayer time guidance, the cruise aims to create an environment where Muslim travelers can fully enjoy their vacation without compromising their religious practices or dietary requirements.

Growing Demand Drives Expansion of Muslim-Friendly Cruise Experiences

The M/V Piano Land is designed with Muslim travelers in mind, featuring a range of specialized amenities. According to Timeout, the ship boasts 880 cabins across 10 decks and can accommodate up to 1,760 passengers. Beyond the basic halal requirements, the cruise offers halal afternoon tea sessions, wellness workshops, and spa treatments. It also includes nightly entertainment and family-friendly activities.

Furthermore, a standout culinary offering includes the ship’s signature Hong Kong-style roasted duck, prepared with carefully selected halal-certified ingredients. The cruise experience has been curated to appeal to wellness enthusiasts, religious travelers, and multi-generational families alike. This pioneering cruise also supports Malaysia’s ambitions to become a global leader in Muslim-friendly tourism.

As Kenny Cheong, managing director of Hwajing Travel & Tours, told Travel Weekly Asia, “With Piano Land, we’re showing that luxury cruising can align seamlessly with halal values, inclusive hospitality and cultural respect. It’s a proud reflection of Malaysia’s readiness to welcome travellers of all backgrounds with warmth and authenticity.”

M/V Piano Land’s Inaugural Itineraries

Starting from November 29, 2025, the M/V Piano Land will offer two distinct itineraries. The first is a four-day, three-night route visiting Langkawi, Penang, and Port Klang. The second is a shorter three-day, two-night journey between Port Klang and Penang. These routes showcase some of Malaysia’s most popular coastal destinations while providing the comfort of Muslim-friendly facilities throughout the journey.
