In late April, Metro Boomin became the first rap music producer to perform at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
Born Leland Tyler Wayne, the popular rap and trap producer DJ’d a setlist of his songs at the Kundalini Grand Pyramids. The venue was at the foot of the Pyramids of Giza complex, a global landmark that includes the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure. The largest of the trio, the Great Pyramid, stands at 481 feet tall. History notes that the grand building stood as the tallest human-made structure in the world for about 4,000 years.
Metro first announced his trip to Egypt in early April. His time in the Middle East came amid the wave of popularity his recent projects received. The collaborative albums We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You with rapper Future both debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
When Did Metro Boomin Perform at the Pyramids?
Metro was initially supposed to perform one show on April 30. However, after quickly being sold out, Live Nation added April 29 as a second date.
The Kundalini Grand Pyramids’ website says the venue has 2,700 standing seats and 2,000 that are seated.
What Did Metro Boomin Think about the Trip and Performing at the Pyramids?
“Beautiful country, beautiful city, beautiful people. [You] really can’t even put it into words,” the 30-year-old native of St. Louis, Missouri, said in an interview with Spotify’s RapCaviar.
“[I] kept looking at the crowd and [was] just amazed that this far around the world, this many people came to see me [and] enjoy these songs together,” the Grammy-nominated producer continued. “And then I just kept turning around and seeing this [the pyramids] behind me. It was just insane, so it’s definitely something I’ll remember for the rest of my life — for sure.”
