One of the biggest things to consider when traveling is housing. You want to stay somewhere nice but not break the bank. Some travelers like to cook while on vacation while others enjoy the luxury of room service and continental breakfast buffets. Location is always a deciding factor, as well as things like privacy, amenities, and room service. And let’s get into pricing. I, myself, have saved hundreds of dollars by booking an Airbnb over a hotel in the past, especially for last-minute stays.
There are pros and cons to both. Let’s explore which works best for you.
Airbnb Pros & Cons
Because you’re staying in someone’s home, Airbnb gives you the ability to experience the city like a local. Most hosts offer suggestions for places to go and things to do in that city. Often times you’re near public transit, restaurants, and in residential neighborhoods, giving you a “home away from home” feeling wherever you go.
Also, every Airbnb is unique. No one looks the same. They each have different styles, sleek designs, and structures to ensure your visit is a top-notch, unique experience. Different properties can offer standout amenities like a pool in the backyard, a game room, washer and dryers, etc.
While you have the option to rent an entire home, you can also rent just a room. This can be a pro or a con, depending on how you feel about residing with strangers. If you don’t mind the possibility of sharing a room or a bathroom, renting a room on Airbnb is an affordable option.
One major con to Airbnbs is the lack of perks such as room service, housekeeping, valet, bellhop, etc. If you’re used to someone else making your bed, emptying your trash, and replacing your towels every morning, Airbnb is not for you. This is someone else’s home and you have to treat it with respect. Many hosts also charge a cleanup fee.
Hotel Pros & Cons
I can’t deny, I do enjoy living in the lap of luxury in plush white robes, having fresh towels, and having someone else make my bed every day. Tourists may take a liking to the premier customer service offered at most hotels and/or resorts, along with other special accommodations.
While checking-in at the black-owned Hilton Cabana Miami Beach, I was randomly selected as the Guest of the Day and would receive complimentary free champagne, two free breakfast tickets and extended access hours to the beach.
The con to hotels/resorts is that they’re not always as cost-friendly as Airbnb and if you are someone who is interested in the “home” feeling, they don’t really offer that. As far as privacy, once you leave your room, there isn’t much of that either.
Depending on what kind of traveler you are, both hotels and Airbnbs can be great options and offer a number of amenities.
