With her new company, Zennjet, WNBA star and Olympian Brittney Griner wants travelers with prescription medication to feel safe and have a thorough education about their destination’s related laws and potential risks.

Nearly three years ago, in February 2022, Griner landed at a Russian airport for an overseas professional basketball stint. However, authorities detained her there for illegally possessing vape cartridges containing cannabis oil, which was her prescribed pain management medication. She was later found guilty of illegal drug smuggling and sentenced to serve nine years in prison. Her bleak Russian detainment ultimately lasted nearly 10 months, until she was dramatically exchanged in a prisoner swap between the two countries.

Now, Griner is taking action as Zennjet’s co-founder. The company describes itself as an “insured travel membership” that provides critical services to travelers going 150 miles or more from home. Members have access to legal support, including “vetted local counsel, if necessary,” as well as translation and repatriation services. They can also rely on Zennjet for medical assistance, including help filling prescriptions abroad. Griner’s company provides a 24/7 global contact number accessible to members in case of emergencies.

Moreover, after a traveler’s enrollment and the registration of a trip, Zennjet provides a “Destination Risk Report” containing information on what that member should know about taking their medications.

What Else Is There To Know About Brittney Griner’s Zennjet?

The company prices its memberships – Zennjet Assist and Zennjet Assist PLUS – annually or per trip.

In a December 2025 interview for USA TODAY’s “Cruising Altitude” column, the Atlanta Dream center emphasized that travelers need to be knowledgeable about the laws for traveling with and possessing prescription medications while away from home.

“Educate yourself before you’re going. Even if it’s somewhere that you’ve traveled and all your friends travel to a lot,” said Griner. “I tell people: look it up, look up their laws, look up what can I bring.”

“I never want anybody to go through what I went through. I’m aware that I’m very blessed and very lucky to have an agency team, my wife, and everybody behind me,” the Zennjet co-founder reflected. “I want people to be able to be aware, informed, and to know where they’re going, where they’re traveling.”
