A Ghanaian-American TikToker from Texas is documenting his experience as a Black expat in Switzerland, which he absolutely loves.
Hasan, who goes by @Hasanguy on TikTok, has gone viral thanks to his videos featuring footage of the central European country. In a video seen by over 151,000 TikTok users, he shared that Switzerland’s nature and beautiful landscapes have really boosted his happiness there. He additionally described the country as “stress-free” and “calm.”
In a separate TikTok, Hasan noted that adventurous people who liked nature would enjoy it as much as he does.
“Switzerland might be one of the safest countries that I’ve personally ever been to in my entire life. I feel like my experience has been phenomenal. I’d definitely recommend this place over a lot of other places in the world,” he said. “This place is exactly like what you think it’s going to be in your dreams. This place looks exactly like what you see on TikTok, Google, and all those desktop screen savers that we used to see. I honestly think it looks a lot better in person…”
What’s It Like Being Black In Switzerland?
The TikToker has answered countless questions about being Black in Switzerland and being an expat there. When a Black woman asked, “Is it safe for us?” Hasan replied, “Confirming, YES.” When another person asked, “How are they treating US over there,” the TikToker said, “Like Coming to America.”
Hasan was reassuring when one commenter raised safety concerns. He said, “I’m not going to lie… Being [Black], I was nervous at first. But I’ve never felt more safe in my life, to be honest.”
Although Switzerland’s official languages are German, French, Italian, and Romansh, Hasan claims he hasn’t really struggled with a language barrier as an English speaker.
